The story behind
Sagacious Sisters
I have been quilting for nine years now.
Working full time and raising four children did not leave me a lot of
extra time. All my spare moments went into teaching myself to quilt from
books. Two years ago, after seeing my quilts in Quilters Newsletter
Magazine, Geri Parker called and asked me to come talk to her guild. It
was a very scary moment. Not only didnt I know any other quilters, I
had never done any public speaking.
Since then she has become my quilt mother
and one of my personal heros. Geri has made hundreds of charity quilts
and has always said, Oh Kathy, you know I dont make your kind of
quilt. Geris quilts are treasures full of love and cheer. Geri is
Charity.
Jennifer is a retired Oncology nurse, who
started a group making quilts for the cancer unit at her local hospital.
Now she designs web sites and has a long arm quilting business. Before a
lecture for her guild, she approached me about developing a web site.
Quilters make wonderful web site designers. They understand visual
impact. Jennifer is Hope. She has brought a lot of it to others in her
life.

Now I had two quilting friends! What would
the creative journey be like if I asked them to join me in making a
quilt? Since part of this wonderful tradition has been to share, inspire
and have fun with other quilters, I wanted to try it.
I am Faith. I believe that the creative
process has great healing qualities. Despite moments of pulling your
hair out, the quilt will show you the way if you persist with Faith.
We have all had near meltdowns of panic
over our contributions. Our husbands know that a phone call from a team
member means they may have to drop everything and be prepared to make
their own lunch and dinner. Deadlines have been met along with the
sunrise. (Its amazing that you can still sew, when you cant see
straight). It is easier to find another 1/2 yard when you all live in
different cities.
These little scraps of fabric and thread
have woven us together in a sisterhood of friendship and caring.
Sagacious in our dreams. Faith, Hope and Charity in our hearts |
