Summer newsletter/Kathy
Wow, its hot outside!
I live in the Pacific NW and, until last year, the majority of homes did not have AC. Blessed be, our new little home has a heat pump with air conditioning. Our Bernadoddle puppy got his own little kid wading pool. He Loves it! We lost 9 chickens in one early morning coyote raid. Unfortunatly, Ben, our mean spirited Rooster, was not in the lot. I would welcome all advice on how to handle the bugger. My advice to my grandson was a complete failure - I assured him the Rooster would leave him alone if he just stood up to him. No sooner said than he attacked me and I had a 2 x 4 in my hands shoving him away. So much for grandmotherly advice.
The big project - Over the last two months I have basically been writing a book on creating landscapes. For beginner to intermediate quilters. Since AQS no longer publishes books, we decided to do it as a series to be published consecutively in American Quilter Magazine. I am excited to share my tips with you in this series. The series includes a pattern so you can work along as we explore every part of making a landscape.
Part one- Choosing a reference photo has just come out.

Sometimes you run into a spot where there are multiple layers, or the fabric just seems very hard to push the needle through. I seem to be incapable of using a thimble despite many trials and styles, so I simply use my 10" cutting mat to push the needle thru. See photo below. I turn my edges on this little mat, as it has a bit of a grab to hold the piece as I finish my edge. The Easy Peasy solution to the tough needle issue!
Summer special
To keep you busy inside enjoying your AC, Bruce is throwing in a free double glue pen refill with every two pattern order (August 5-September 5) He is working hard at training the upcoming generation of quilters.
Big hugs from our whole family. Kathy
