Blue Heron pattern

A favorite bird found all across the world, this elegant Blue Heron is a joy to create.Add to your own background scene or fabric. Use the pond elements in the pattern or make your own scene. If you are using this pattern in one of my WORKSHOPS and want to pre-sew the sky and water background before class, you will NEED a sky section 27 inches high by 23 inches wide sewn to a water fabric 4 inches high by 23 inches wide. Optional--- create a pieced sky with 2.5 inch water color squares or diamonds. Placing them on point is just another option for added interest. Just sew units together to get the finished dimensions given above. This unique wall hanging finishes at 24 x 30 with out the border. Easy to follow directions included.

If you need help with applique techniques consider adding my 1 hr and 45 minute DVD on "Multiple ways to Applique." It demonstrates 5 different methods of applique. Sizing and Starch is my go to method for simple shapes like leaves, that do not need to be precise.  Freezer Paper allows you to make sure that you get a birds head to look like the pattern.  Needle Turn is the only way to deal with tiny complex edges. Fused saves time and may be the only reasonable way to make a tiny eye or little branch that is too small to turn under your edges. Machine Applique gives added definition and can be used for turned under edges or raw edges.
